After a long wait, PUBG Corp finally announced that they’ve released the Open Beta version of custom matches for their critically acclaimed battle royale game Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds.
Right now, custom matches are only available on the test servers. PUBG Corp is planning to move it to the live servers once the system is proven to be stable.
They described custom matches as follows:
When you create your own custom match, you can play PUBG your way. Customize every aspect of the game, from circle behavior, item/vehicle spawn rates, to loadouts and more. You can even create and customize War Mode and Zombie Mode game types, then invite as many (or few) players as you want to join. Create private matches for friends, or public games so the whole world can enjoy your creation.
During the open beta, custom games will be limited to 10,000 concurrent running games so that they wouldn’t overwhelm PUBG servers.
They also mentioned that custom games will be free during the open beta, but might end up behind a paywall once it’s out of beta. Apparently the system requires “extremely large amount of resources” to allow custom games to be available to all players.
