Steam Summer Sale 2018: Best Multiplayer Games

Steam Summer Sale 2018 has officially begun and is already wrecking havoc on our wallets. To help you save some time and waste some money we at MMOKnight have put together a list of multiplayer games we think you might enjoy.

We’ve selected 15 games across 3 different price ranges and grouped them: under $5, under $10 and under $30. Without further ado, here are our picks for the best multiplayer games on the Steam Summer Sale 2018.

Games Under $5:

Portal 2 – $1.99 (-90%)

Ok, we might have cheated a bit here. It isn’t really a multiplayer game, but it has a multiplayer mode where you can solve puzzles with your friends (or just screw with them). The game is easily one of our all time favourite games. In the singleplayer storyline, you play Chell, a woman who is forced to solve puzzles using a portal gun in order to escape the psychopathic AI. In multiplayer, you and your friend (or a random stranger) get to play robots created by the previously mentioned AI and solve puzzles just for fun.

Trine 2: Complete Story – $2.99 (-85%)

Trine 2 is a sidescrolling game that offers players various puzzles to solve on their journey through the breathtaking fairytale world. The game offers 3 playable characters, Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight and Zoya the Thief. Each hero brings their own unique skills that are necessary for solving different puzzles. You can play the game in a co-op mode teaming up with 2 other players.

Just Cause 2 – $2.99 (-80%)

Just cause 2 is a fun adrenaline packed action game. In single-player you play the part of an overpowered agent Rico Martinez who roams the 400 square mile map causing trouble on land, sea and in the sky, accompanied by his trusty grappling hook. In online mode, you can cause true chaos with other players around the world.

Terraria – $4.99 (-50%)

At first glance, Terraria doesn’t look like much; “it’s just a sidescrolling minecraft clone”. Sure, it might have borrowed some gameplay mechanics from the critically acclaimed blockbuster game (oh yes we did), but it also offers so many unique features. Re-logic has managed to create a truly mesmerizing world where you can spend months before realizing you haven’t even started the “story”. There’s no right way of playing the game, whether you want to create a world and play alone offline, host a game and share your created world with your friends or just join a random person’s creations and have fun with them, it’s all up to you.

Mount & Blade: Warband – $4.99 (-75%)

Mount & Blade: Warband is an epic sequel to the amazing strategy & medieval warfare action game Mount & Blade. In singleplayer, the sandbox experience allows players to start off as a mere peasant and work their way through bloody battles towards becoming the greatest king Calradia has ever seen. Throughout your battles, you can recruit followers, fall in love and kill enemies (and friends). Regretfully, multiplayer, doesn’t quite offer the same amount of freedom and experience, but it does allow players to battle it out in bloody skirmishes. The game also has a very active modding community, which offers many cool and memorable experiences.

Games Under $10

Rocket League – $9.99 (-50%)

Even if it weren’t the middle of the World Cup right now, we would still add Rocket League to this list. The game is simple on paper, you try to get the ball to go into your opponents goal while protecting your own goal. You can play 1 v 1 or up to 4 players per team. Although the game didn’t seem like much to us at first, we quickly grew to love it. There’s nothing quite like jumping off a wall and flying the ball into your opponents goal. Even if you’re not a big sports fan, you might want to check out this game.

Tom Clancy’s The Division – $9.99 (-80%)

Although this game didn’t quite live up to the hype surrounding it after the initial announcement, we think this is a solid addition to the list. If you’re the sort of person who likes grind, doesn’t mind staying behind cover and enjoys collecting loot, you might want to pick this up. If you’re looking for a deep story to heighten your mind, you probably don’t want to buy this.

Besiege – $5.99 (-40%)

Ok, we’ll be honest, we haven’t had much time to test out the multiplayer in this game, but from the little we did, it seemed like fun if you have friends to play with. If you like building stuff, and using that stuff to destroy other stuff, then this is the game for you. Besiege offers unparalleled freedom to build crazy devices. People have built A LOT of cool machines for the game, and many of them are available for download so you can discover what makes them tick and perhaps improve upon them.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – $7.49 (-50%)

This is the 2012 remake of the iconic Counter-Strike game. It’s one of the biggest eSports games out there right now. CS:GO is an objective based FPS that rewards teams who communicate and cooperate.  If competitive gaming isn’t for you, the game also offers less competitive game modes such as arms race and regular deathmatch. If you’ve never played the game, we think it’s worth picking up with this discount.

HELLDIVERS – $5.99 (-50%)

Helldivers is a top down cooperative shooter. It allows you to team up with up to 3 friends in order to complete missions and just have fun. However, playing with friends might end badly, since the game has friendly fire which usually means that one of your friends will “accidentally” shoot you. The levels are procedurally generated, which is better than running the same levels over and over again. This game is definitely worth a try if you haven’t tried it already.

Games Under $30

Dark Souls 3 – $14.99 (-75%)

The Dark Souls series is infamous for it’s difficulty. Along it’s beautiful graphics, the game offers deep story, epic fights, MASSIVE bosses and a lot of cursing. The game offers a fun coop mode where players can band together to fight the undying enemy forces and defeat bosses. You can also invade the worlds of other players and make their life miserable. This game isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy a bit of a challenge, we definitely recommend picking it up.

Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Complete – $12.99 (-92%)

Sid Meier’s Civilization is unarguably one of the greatest turn-based strategic game series ever. In this game, you can become the ruler of the world. Guide your civilization from the dawn of man into the space age. Wage wars, conduct diplomacy, grow your culture and discover new technologies. There are many paths to victory and each ruler has unique perks that makes them suited for different play styles. The game doesn’t only support multiplayer over the internet, it also supports hot-seat. Right now, the complete bundle is discounted a whopping 92% which makes it a steal.

DiRT Rally – $11.99 (-80%)

DiRT Rally is the perfect game to get if you’re a rally fan. The game offers a wide variety of vehicles from 1960’s, 70’s, 80’s, Group B, Group A, Group R, 2000’s and 2010’s modern rally, rally cross and pikes peak as well as a lot of different tracks, which are based on real tracks. The game is definitely a fun one to play with your friends. Remember.. “DON’T CUT”.

Final Fantasy XIV Online Complete Edition – $28.99 (-45%)

NOTE: This game requires a monthly subscription to play.

Even though this is a pay to play game, it definitely deserves a spot on this list. The bundle includes the base game (with 30-day subscription) plus the Heavensward and Stormblood expansions. FFXIV is one of the best MMORPGs out there right now. The game offers a lot of cool content a lot of which becomes available at late game. If you love MMORPGs, you should definitely give this game a chance. If you already have a non-steam version of the base game, you shouldn’t buy the expansion on steam, the 2 versions aren’t compatible.

Dying Light – $15.99 (-60%)

If you like zombies, parkour and open world exploration, you’ll probably enjoy this game. Dying Light is a first-person action survival game set in a vast open world crowded with ravenous zombies. The game offers a 4 player co-op mode as well as a “be the zombie” mode where you’ll get to hunt other humans. It’s an extremely fun game and the multiplayer adds much to it.

This is the list of games we think you should check out from the Steam Summer Sale 2018. Be sure to let us know if we missed any great multiplayer games.
